If we should make the complete switch to Linux (Ubuntu) from Windows XP, the following are mission-critical:
1) Outlook Express mail, address book and account settings must be transfered.
2) Home-banking should be accessable.
3) All documents transfered.
4) USB Compact Flash Card reader must be accessable.
5) Citrix client settings must be transfered

In a recent pet project I wanted to convert an old IBM ThinkPad 760ED to a (wireless) networked mp3 player. It should sit on top of the stero set and just spit out mp3 files found on the home network. Installing Debian on it wasn't to big a hassle but unfortunally there isn't a Linux MWave driver available :-( No sound then ...
Another possibillity is FreeDos. Here's a list of IBM Laptops with FreeDos (and sound working!). And once I get FreeDos installed here's a list of sound software.
